This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD workforce. About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market. Tripler Army Medical Center is a tobacco-free workplace. Tobacco products include, but are not limited to, smoking, smokeless tobacco, and electronic nicotine delivery devices.

Duties

Serve as a Nurse Educator providing education and oversight of nursing practice. Oversee the competency of newly assigned nursing personnel and medics by evaluating clinical skills and expertise. Evaluate the nursing and medical aspects of the patient care plans. Assist Physician in the performance of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Advance Trauma Support (ATLS). Perform a variety of administrative duties as an extension of Clinical Head Nurse of Emergency Department. Provide nursing care to a variety of complex medical and surgical cases found in the Emergency Department. Assist in revising teaching programs for the nursing staff and providing formal instruction for nursing staff.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Must possess and maintain current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Must possess and maintain current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or obtained within 6 months of start of employment.
  • Must possess and maintain current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification or obtained within 6 months of start of employment.
  • Position is subject to rotating shifts, on-call and weekends/holidays.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Requirement to lift up to 35 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Basic Requirement for Nurse (Educator): Degree: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Foreign Degree: A degree from a Foreign Nursing School. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Applicants claiming this exemption must meet the requirement below. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant. Active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Education and Experience: Possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level). Professional Nursing Experience is defined as: One year of experience which includes educating patients on wellness or assisting with planning or developing educational programs and evaluating educational programs, as well as providing comprehensive emergent nursing care. OR Education: Successful completion of two and a half years of progressively higher level graduate education leading towards a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
