About the Position: This position is located in the Department of Surgery, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market.

Duties
Perform professional nursing duties specializing in general, intravenous, and regional anesthesia.
Determine the optimal type and method of anesthesia care for a broad range of surgical procedures.
Facilitate policy and program changes through incorporating research, best practices, and new technology in work.
Participate in ongoing research and publications of findings in anesthesiology technologies.
Conduct and participate in educational programs that improve anesthesia nursing practice.
Collect and evaluate data regarding anesthesia options to determine optimal types of anesthesia to be used.
Manage patient care throughout surgical procedures.
Administer anesthetic by inhalation, endotracheal intubation, regional, intravenous, or topical methods.
Provide post-operative care to patients following return to the intensive care unit or recovery room.
Perform full range of emergency services during life-threatening changes in patient condition.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug test screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position requires Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- This position requires certification from the National Boards of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
- This position requires certification from the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (AANA).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree for Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Positions: A graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of Anesthesia.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants for Advanced Practice Nurse positions must be licensed or registered by a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience Required: At least one full year of professional nursing experience equivalent to the next lower grade GS-12 which includes administering anesthetics to patients by inhalation, endotracheal intubation, regional, intravenous, or topical means and monitoring patients throughout surgical procedures.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
