Duties
Responsible for customer support within the Fort Wainwright MEDDAC Information Management Division.
Assist customers in resolving technical problems by functioning in a tier 2 capacity.
Assist in a tier 1 capacity for Local Area Network (LAN) support and ensures that service request concerning networks, computers, peripherals, and services are handled in an expeditious manner.
Prioritize open work orders received from the Help Desk and plan daily and weekly workload according to guidelines identified by the MEDDAC-AK IMD management team.
Provide tier 2 assistances to functional users and co-workers regarding the operation and maintenance of hardware and or software.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- On-call is required.

In order to qualify for this position IT Specialist (Customer Service), you must meet the requirements described below:
Basic Requirements: Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating the following competencies appropriate to, or above, the level of this position.
Attention to Detail- experience reviewing my own information technology-related work or data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency with standards. My work or the data that I produce is typically reviewed by my supervisor or another colleague.
Customer Service- experience having brief contact with customers to provide information about available information technology products and services and providing customers with standard products or routine services to address information technology needs.
Oral Communication- experience informing my supervisor and other IT staff of the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including the status of information technology systems, projects, or daily operations, including the communication of basic technical information to a non-technical audience.
Problem Solving- identifying or selecting from a number of alternatives to address routine information technology-related issues by gathering and applying information from standard sources that provide a limited number of solutions.
Specialized Experience: Oneyear of specialized experience which includes which includes: assisting senior It Specialists with one or more of the following: installation, configuration, troubleshooting, customer assistance or training customers with requirements related to software and hardware problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaption of applications, systems or networks.
