You will serve as a ELECTRICAL ENGINEER in the POWER SYSTEMS DIVISION within the PROPULSION POWER & AUX MACHINERY SYSTEMS DEPT of NSWC PHILA DIV.

Duties

You will serve as the NAVSEA/Navy expert for shipboard Power Generation and Distribution systems control, and protection systems and specifications. You will provide Technical Authority services to NAVSEA Technical Warrant Holders, including development of new ship power architectures and modernization of existing power systems. You will conceive, propose, plan, direct, oversee and manage a wide range of projects for the analysis, design, development, and maintenance of the Power Generation and Distribution Systems. You will provide electric power systems analytical expertise to resolve critical problems or develop new approaches or methods to advance Fleet electric plant interface standards. You will direct investigative and experimental efforts to advance state-of-the-art in technology for Hull, Mechanical and Electrical ships systems and components installed on Land Based Engineering Laboratories and Sites as well as aboard ships.

• This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer performing work that involved the planning, directing or leading projects for the analysis, design, development, maintenance or modernization of naval shipboard electric power systems to include defining project plans/objectives and priorities, and planning, organizing and directing technical activities to meet mission requirements. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
