THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a WL-5801-10 SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1287000 in SPMD 6021 and is part of the MO Combined Support Maintenance Shop. APPOINTMENT FACTORS: : This is an Indefinite/Permanent (may retain current tenure if on-board) Excepted Service position. This is a bargaining position. SEE NOTES UNDER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BELOW.

Duties

Assigns work orders to specific crewmembers and selects workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Passes on to Workers instructions received from the supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work. Works along with other workers and sets pace performing non-supervisory repair work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led. Troubleshoots, performs maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical and automotive vehicles. Removes and disassembles engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems. Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions with little or no supervision in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems. Conducts readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity. May maintain and repair electronics communication equipment by removing and replacing components and elements. Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. Plans, organizes, and performs technical analysis as required or assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• If selected individual is in a Permanent status (Tenure 1 or 2) with the Missouri Army National Guard, that individual will retain their Permanent status.
• If selected individual is in an Indefinite status (Tenure 3) with the Missouri Army National Guard, that individual will retain their Indefinite status.
• Management has the right to convert this position to permanent status without re-advertising.
• Indefinite employment can be terminated with a 30 day notice.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Title 32 National Guard employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided you with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series; and experience or training which demonstrates your ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series. WL-10 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 24 months of specialized experience which demonstrates your knowledge of and skill in the repair of surface maintenance equipment sufficient to organize and direct the work of other surface maintenance repair technicians; ability to provide guidance to others in troubleshooting complex equipment malfunctions; ability to instruct others to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles and equipment.

This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
