THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a WL-5801-11 SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER (TITLE 32), Position Description Number D1288000 in SPMD 6021 and is part of the MO Combined Support Maintenance Shop. APPOINTMENT FACTORS: This is an Indefinite/Permanent (may retain current tenure if on-board) Excepted Service position. This is a non-bargaining position. SEE NOTES UNDER CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT BELOW.

Duties

Assigns work orders to specific crewmembers and selects workers for various jobs on the basis of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Passes on to workers instructions received from the supervisor, demonstrates proper work methods, and starts work. Insures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Works along with other workers and sets pace performing non-supervisory repair work of the same kind and level as that done by the group led. Performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and major repair on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles. Interprets work instructions and assists lower graded repairers or trainees in the more difficult and complex tasks. Provides information to the supervisor on status and progress of work, causes of delays, and overall work operations and problems. Makes repairs and modifications to assemblies and components such as voltage regulators, generators/alternators, brake cylinders, etc., for use or placement in systems for which they were not specifically designed. Determines what adjustments may be necessary to complete work orders, and whether any additional repairs other than those specified or indicated on the work order are necessary. Reassembles engines and other systems, and adjusts, tests, and reinstalls in vehicles and equipment as necessary. Makes adjustments and repairs to electrical and suspension systems. Provides technical guidance and specialized team leadership to lower grade employees within the team. Performs operational inspections and ensures vehicles and equipment are properly serviced, including brake adjustments, replacing hydraulic fluids, greasing, cleaning, etc., and performs other preventive maintenance operations as required. Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • If selected individual is in a Permanent status (Tenure 1 or 2) with the Missouri Army National Guard, that individual will retain their Permanent status.
  • If selected individual is in an Indefinite status (Tenure 3) with the Missouri Army National Guard, that individual will retain their Indefinite status.
  • Management has the right to convert this position to permanent status without re-advertising.
  • Indefinite employment can be terminated with a 30 day notice.

Qualifications

MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an Excepted Service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. Selected candidate will be required to be in a compatible military assignment prior to effective date of placement. Selected candidate must be MOS qualified within 12 months from date of appointment. Maximum Military Grade - Warrant Officer: CW4 (W-4) Enlisted: SGM (E-9) Warrant Officer - Branch 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 91, 92 or 94; MOS 882A Enlisted - CMF 12, 13, 14, 19, 25, 88, 91, 92 or 94 Supervisor must verify that selected individual occupies a compatible military position. Title 32 National Guard employees will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (grade inversion). GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must possess experience or training that has provided you with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series; experience or training which demonstrates your ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series. WL-11 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess 24 months of specialized experience which demonstrates your knowledge of and skill in the repair of surface maintenance equipment sufficient to organize and direct the work of other surface maintenance repair technicians; ability to provide guidance to others in troubleshooting complex equipment malfunctions; ability to instruct others to diagnose, repair, overhaul, and modify interconnected complex systems on a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, special purpose vehicles and equipment.

Education

This job does not have a qualification requirement that allows substitution of education for specialized experience.
