The AFRL Munitions Directorate seeks to hire a Mid-Level DR-0801-03, Supervisory Senior General Engineer as the Branch Chief, Computational Engineering Sciences Branch (RWTC) at Eglin AFB in Valparaiso, Florida.
The ideal candidate will have a breadth of experience leading science and technology, research and development, and technical workforce development in the areas of hardware-in-the-loop test environments, radio frequency seekers and fuze sensors, electro-optical and infrared seekers, and physics based algorithm development used for modeling and simulation of complex weapon system components. In addition, the ideal candidate will have prior experience as a supervisor directing teams with military and civilian scientists and engineers at the Branch level (2nd-level supervisor) in or with a Department of the Executive Branch (e.g. DoD, DoE, OSTP, etc.). Further, the ideal candidate will have clearly demonstrated strong business acumen in stewarding a technical workforce with limited resources in meeting the organization's strategic goals. Lastly, the ideal candidate has experience engaging and growing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry, academia, and allies; and advising senior leadership on matters related to science and technology. A strong candidate will have supervisory experience at the Section level (1st-level supervisor) and a background in an R&D lab, leading basic to advanced technology development.
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
Serves as Branch Chief: Exercises final authority for full range of personnel actions. For General Schedule employees, this includes establishing and approving performance standards, evaluating performance, assigning performance ratings and providing effective feedback. For employees within the Laboratory Demonstration Project, this includes assessing contribution, participating in pay pool meetings, providing effective feedback, as well as classifying positions. Maintains discipline, interviews candidates, approves appointments, promotions, and reassignments, regularly mentors and proactively promotes career development and training for each employee, initiates and/or approves other personnel actions, e.g., awards.
Leads/manages all aspects of the branch (RWTC) with complete accountability for mission and program success.
Directs, coordinates and oversees work through subordinate employees. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of senior management.
Performs expert level multidisciplinary professional engineering work involving the application of electronics, mechanical, systems, aerospace, and/or other engineering disciplines to plan, organize, direct and coordinate significant and complex research projects and/or processes.
Applies expert knowledge and advanced engineering theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods to ensure assigned projects/processes remain consistent with program objectives, costs, schedules, performance criteria, and existing policies.
Applies a number of diverse engineering practices, techniques, and processes to identify and resolve difficult issues, as well as ensure resolutions are consistent with program objectives, existing policies, and procedures.
Independently defines research objectives and determines how they may be best accomplished, develops and evaluates alternatives, defines the approach, conducts the analyses, and documents findings and products related to human performance research, education and/or consultation.
Demonstrates a mastery of, and skill in applying, innovative multidisciplinary practices, techniques, and methodology to identify, analyze, and resolve issues; ensures resolutions are consistent with program objectives.
Demonstrates creativity and foresight by identifying, preparing, and presenting detailed technical reports and briefings on new concepts and technical directions impacting programs/projects, and defining future technology requirements.
Collaborates, interacts, coordinates, and/or directly consults with AF, other governments, DoD, academic, and industry partners.

- The employee must, within 30-days of assuming this position and by 31 October annually, thereafter, file an OGE-450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report. Employee is required to attend annual ethics and procurement integrity training.
- This position has been designated as an acquisition position and is covered by the Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP).
- The employee must meet, or be capable of meeting Defense Acquisition Work Improvement Act (DAWIA) applicable to the duties of the position.
- This is an APDP position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) Non-Critical certification in Engineering and Technical Management (N).
- This is a supervisory position.

This position is a Drug Testing position.
Must possess an engineering degree from an accredited academic institution as of the close date of this announcement and provide official transcripts when applying. This position is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level II Practitioner Certification. Applicants for this position must list any acquisition certifications.
Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience to at least the (GS-14) grade level under the General Schedule (GS) or other pay systems.
Excellent technical communication ability to include briefings, reports, and papers.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: Degree: Professional Engineering. To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR
Combination of education and experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. The adequacy of such background must be demonstrated by one of the following:

Master's degree/PhD from an accredited school is highly desired
