Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Communicates information through visual means for public affairs activities and medical/scientific/leadership presentations; Designs and produces complex posters, exhibits, brochures, newsletters, resource guides, etc.; Selects visual materials such as graphics and illustrations to be used in the communication of information; Produces original illustrations, logo designs, and other original art illustrations via computer illustration and freehand technique; Utilizes numerous graphic design software packages including, but not limited to Adobe Creative Suite, Power Point, etc.; Performs photography and videography services; Ensures that all visual products are properly stored, edited for use, labeled appropriately for ease in accessing, and maintained in a central online repository; Provides guidance and education to staff regarding photography and videography; Plans,, designs, and updates content to Butler VA's virtual media platforms, i.e. website, Social Media (Facebook, Twitter) and GOV. Qualifications

To qualify for the Visual Information Specialist GS-1084-9, you must meet one of the following: EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service (GS-07) that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes graphic design, photography, videography, and editing; utilizing and applying various software applications such as Adobe Creative Suite, CANVA, Microsoft Office, Teamsite, Sharepoint, etc.; and updating content to social media platforms. Note: This experience must be demonstrated on your resume to receive credit. -OR- EDUCATION: master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related, with a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position. Some positions may also require subject-matter knowledge of medicine, science, or technical equipment. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Assignments involve extended periods of walking, standing, bending, and stooping to execute logistics for special events or to accompany media crews or other special groups. Incumbent must be manually dexterous when operating video or photography equipment or when creating, transporting or assembling exhibits. Visual interpretation of color is essential. Incumbent is also required to regularly pick up loads of 15 pounds such as boxes of VA literature and to push carts of supplies. Most work is accomplished in a typical office environment. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
