The Domiciliary Health Technician is a position within the Mental Health Service. The incumbent is directly supervised by the Domiciliary Health Technician Supervisor/Lead or Assistant Domiciliary Chief. The Health Technician is assigned to the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (MHRRTP) known as the Domiciliary Program.

Duties

Responsible for maintaining a safe therapeutic environment of care for the Domiciliary patients. Plays a vital role in administering breathalyzers (on-the-spot) and conducting Urine Drug Screens (UDS) as determine appropriate. Provides assistance in Domiciliary patient room inspections, safety lock-down inspections. Both can be announced or unannounced. Works with people who have brain injuries or deterioration, or other mental health impairments. Emotionally supports patients. Communicates with interdisciplinary team on patient status. Orients new patients within 24 hours of admission. Explains Domiciliary Patient Handbook and treatment agreement for care. Work Schedule: Multiple shifts available to be discussed with supervisor. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/06/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS 6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS 5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Stress may be involved in dealing with persons in emotional distress and who may be uncooperative and occasionally violent. Must be able to assist patients who need help with standing, walking, and sitting if needed. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time or sit for long periods of time.
