The position serves as a Lead Program Support Assistant for the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS) Center for Development and Civic Engagement (CDCE) and Ambassador Service with primary duties and responsibilities supporting the CDCE and Ambassador Service Chief. The position is responsible to the supervisor for ensuring that the work assignments of the other employees of the team are carried out by performing a range of duties.

Duties

You will lead a team of Program Support Assistants while working the front desk and other areas of the Medical Center, assisting the Voluntary Service Officer in ensuring TVHS is able to provide excellent customer service to the Veteran patients they serve. Duties include but are not limited to: Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established workflow or job specialization, assures timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assures that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Keeps in touch with the status and progress of work, and makes day- to- day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly. Gives on the job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices. Maintains a current knowledge and answers questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up. Checks on work in progress or spot checks work not requiring review (e. g., filing or direct services) and reviews completed work to see that supervisor's instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refers others to supervisor. Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems; and provides information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs. Provides patient transport services which requires pushing wheelchairs, transport chairs, gurneys, stretchers, and hospital beds, assists with transportation to the morgue and assists with movement of patients with safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM) and other medical equipment. The incumbent is responsible for all administrative functions of the program. He/she will be actively involved in identifying problem areas and in the development of methods to improve the functions of the program. Responsible for assisting Veterans with in-person authentication of the My HealtheVet Program. Addresses customers of the medical center by answering questions concerning the location of outpatient clinics, inpatient area pharmacy, radiology and lab services and other areas of the medical center at each campus. ***The incumbent must possess and maintain a current, valid state driver's license.*** Work Schedule: To be determined at the time of hiring (Tour of duty could be days, evening, or weekends) Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. You may qualify based on your experience as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience is defined as providing clerical and/or administration support in a medical center or hospital; Compiles data for reporting purposes; orders and maintains necessary level of needed forms and office supplies; maintenance of office records and files; Responding to customer complaints and inquiries; Escorting patients to/from clinics; Assisting (lifting, pushing, etc.,) patients with wheelchairs, gurneys and other medical equipment. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. and utilizing interpersonal communication skills which foster effective working relationships. Physical Requirements: The incumbent is required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time and sitting at computer for long periods of time. The work is primarily physical with requires standing, walking bending, lifting, kneeling, and pushing wheelchairs, transport chairs, gurneys, stretchers, medical beds, and other medical equipment. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work requires heavy lifting of equipment or patients. We are a minimal lift facility and staff, except in cases of emergency, should not lift over 35 lbs. The incumbent must be able to operate a vehicle in a sitting position for prolonged periods of time in extreme weather conditions.
