This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, Department of Logistics, Base Alameda, Alameda, CA.  

Duties

You will serve as a Family Resource Specialist as a point of contact for family support services for all units located within the designated Area of Responsibility (AOR).   Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • The position requires a valid state driver's license.
  • Hours vary and will require some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.    OR Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.    OR Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to the Basic Requirements, at the GS-11 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: Serving as a non-clinical case manager on issues pertaining to special needs conditions; assessing and providing referral recommendations for services necessary to address the individual needs of each family with a special needs member; providing information and referral to local childcare programs; assisting parents with locating points of contact in the schools and making referrals as appropriate; providing information, referral, guidance and support to agency personnel and family members; and improving community awareness of current and future programs and services. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR Combination of education and experience. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
