This position is in located Tomah Ambulatory Care in Patient Care Services at the Tomah VA Medical Center, Tomah, WI. The primary purpose of the position is to maintain and/or assemble supplies, operate equipment, and assist treatment team, physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and other allied health, in performing diverse therapeutic and diagnostic procedures and examinations required for patient care, including patient preparation.
Duties
Duties include:
Answer the telephone using proper business etiquette.
Communicate with customers in a pleasant, friendly, personable, and professional manner.
Communicate effectively via telephone and in-person.
Perform specified diagnostic tests and treatments, to include but not limited to: collect, label, and transport patient specimens, including: blood for laboratory work via venipuncture, stool guaiac, throat cultures, urine specimens, wound cultures..
Collects patients' data including vital signs, weight and height and observation of overall condition.
Documents patient information in medical record.
Maintains and organizes supply and equipment rooms.
Provides direct patient care and assistance to providers.
Orders and organizes all clinic supplies.
Covers the fitness center in the mornings and cleans before and after

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/27/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Health Technician GS-5 Grade Level:
Experience: Must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least next lower grade level (GS-4). Specialized experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized experience typically includes, but is not limited to: Broad working knowledge and understanding of clinic patients and the policies and procedures that apply to Primary Care and overall patient care. Knowledge and skill to understand anatomy, health screening and preventive services, the function of illness and disease, the treatment procedures and diagnostic procedures. Knowledge of standardized patient care, activities of daily living, and skills sufficient to perform procedures. Knowledge of infection control, aseptic and sterile techniques to prevent patient cross contamination and spread of infection. Knowledge of verbal and written communication skill including interviewing techniques, to interact effectively with staff, patients, visitors and physicians; to exchange and obtain information; and to document in the medical record. Basic Knowledge of eligibility and administrative policies and procedures. OR
Education: Must have successfully completed a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position such as medical, health, etc.. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience directly related to the work of the Podiatry Technician position, which may be substituted to meet the experience requirements of the position. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED
To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 60 semester hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-05. For example, an applicant who has 9 semester hours of graduate level education (i.e. 50% of graduate education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing all or part of your qualifications on education.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work involves long periods of moving about the work unit. The work requires regular and recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and repositioning patients or similar activities.
