This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, headquartered in Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY As a Public Affairs Specialist, you will use your knowledge of and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by: Serving as a consultant and catalyst for improving the way HHS delivers information to its employees and the public via its digital platforms. As a change agent and strategic thinker, constantly explores how people seek and ingest information and how emerging technologies and practices can be applied in the digital communications environment. Assisting with the development and administration of the Department's social media strategy, coordinating with stakeholders across the Department to ensure its effectiveness and encouraging adoption of relevant web content techniques into the corporate culture. Maintaining and updating social media and outreach communications of all types including on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, email newsletters, etc. Producing announcements, programs and campaigns designed to encourage online community development and interaction. These are full-time TERM positions. Appointment to these positions will not convey permanent status in the Federal service and will be for a period not to exceed twelve months, with possible extensions up to a total of four years without further competition (based on agency needs).

Qualifications

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Basic Qualifications: (if applicable) Minimum Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications: You must have one-year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing at least two (2)of the following: Assisting with development and administration of a Departmental social media strategy. Maintaining and updating social media and outreach communications. Producing campaigns designed for online engagement. -OR- Education: Successful completion of three (3) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or LL.M., if related. One (1) year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours determined by the school attended. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester or 27 quarter hours will satisfy an academic year of graduate study. You must include transcripts. -OR- Combination: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to gain employment. If such experience is on a part-time basis, you must provide the average number of hours worked per week as well as the beginning and ending dates of the experience so it can be fully credited.
