This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), serving as an Archives Technician on a Reference Service team. The teams are located within one of the Core Units, Civilian Personnel Records Center, National Personnel Records Center. The Reference Service teams provide world class customer service and are tasked with continually improving the responsiveness and quality of service provided to the customer.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-08. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Respond to a variety of types of requests for information regarding military service.
Communicate directly with all levels of customers, including high level officials, members of the media, congressional representatives, in person, by telephone, or by e-mail, to obtain clarification of the request and/or additional information which may facilitate the response to the request and to provide information regarding MPR processes and procedures.
Provide information to less-experience technicians regarding rarely used sources and/or obscure locations in response to unusual, sensitive, and/or highly complex inquiries.
Provide on the job training to newly hired and less experienced technicians in aspects of routine, complex, and priority correspondence casework.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-08, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Resolving issues regarding military record holdings; AND
Interpreting regulations and writing instructions, memos, or training material to inform others of interpretations; AND
Practicing the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or the Privacy Act (PA) to determine whether the requested information may be released.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-07, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Resolving issues regarding military record holdings; AND
Practicing the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) or the Privacy Act (PA) to determine whether the requested information may be released.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-06, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Responding to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing; AND
Applying regulations and policies to accomplish work assignments.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the GS-08, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-06level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05 level for 52 weeks.
