The incumbent serves as a Senior Research Biologist in the Laboratory of Genitourinary Cancer Pathogenesis (LGCP) and serves as an independent and collaborative scientific and technical expert and resource in providing research support to NCI scientists by performing a broad range of complex assignments involving the application of a broad range of methods, in particular microscopic imaging methods, procedures, and techniques associated with the NIH biomedical research environment.
Duties
Leading new scientific efforts in image acquisition and analysis. Evaluates the literature and other publications for ongoing imaging studies in order to refine existing methods, assist with the development of novel methods, and lead development of new image acquisition and analysis methods, which will have utility in future studies.
Maintain expertise and advanced state-of-the-art knowledge of the particular area of research throughout the life of the project, reviewing available literature on new methods and techniques for potential application within the Section.
Provide unique expertise and guidance in the preparation, management and monitoring of imaging related Cooperative Research and Development Agreements (CRADAs), Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), and other related collaborative agreements.
Prepare written material of a scientific nature such as summaries or reports of study findings, scientific narratives or progress reports. Prepares reports on selected organization activities/operations and/or accomplishments. These reports may be in response to inquiries from other academic researchers, NCI or NIH offices. Identifies, verifies and evaluates data needed to create reports, analyses or graphics. Evaluates complex reports and information from a variety of outside sources.
Independently oversees and maintains central imaging software, databases and information dissemination products. Provides expertise, guidance, support, training, and advice in imaging systems to other research staff.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Senior Research Biologist, GS-401 position, you must meet the following Education Requirements:
Have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university;
OR
Have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
In addition, in order to qualify at the GS-14 level, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: independently planning, implementing and developing research methods; employing advanced qualitative and quantitative techniques to analyze experimental data; preparing and presenting information regarding laboratory experiments to a research community; and providing guidance and training to others in the use of equipment and in the conduct of laboratory methods and procedures.
