This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, POLICE OPERATIONS DIVISION. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for the enforcement of the Federal, State and local laws relating to the protection of human life, including the preservation of the civil rights of individuals.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the TR-8 Police Officer (Corporal). If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
Serve as a United States Police Officer having authority derived from the Director of The Bureau of Engraving and Printing via the Secretary of the Treasury through Title 18, United States Code, Section 13 (18 U.S.C. § 13) The Assimilative Crimes Act (ACA), Title 31, United States Code, Section 321 Money and Finance: Treasury and Title 40, United States Code, Section 1315 (b) (2) (A)-(C), Protection of Environment Code of Federal Regulations in policing Bureau of Engraving and Printing buildings and grounds to enforce all Federal, State and local laws enacted for the protection of persons and property and to prevent breaches of the peace, to suppress affrays or unlawful assemblies and to enforce any rules and regulations made and promulgated by the Secretary of the Treasury or the Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
Prevent, detect, and investigate violations of laws, rules, and regulations involving accidents, misconduct, and misdemeanor to felony crimes. Bureau of Engraving and Printing Police Officers arrest violators assist in the prosecution of criminals and serves as a source of assistance to employees and the public in emergencies.
Conduct investigations of crimes and maintain surveillance over the facility to protect and prevent such crimes.
Conduct and complete investigations not referred to investigators. Utilize extensive body of standard and non-standard investigative procedures to collect and analyze evidence such as forensic analysis; fingerprint dusting; developing and following leads; photograph; research, collect and protect evidence; plan and conduct surveillance operations; and, interview, and obtain witness statements. Gather facts and evidence, conduct full analysis to develop case information and identify potential suspects for possible prosecution.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Minimum Age Requirement: Must be at least 21 Years of Age.
AND
Specialized Experience:
For the TR-8, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the TR-7/GS-6 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for the TR-8 is defined as:
- Experience that provided knowledge of Federal, State or Local Laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques, investigating and resolving incidents and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
For the TR-7, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the TR-6/GS-5 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for the TR-7 is defined as:
- Experience that provided knowledge of Federal, State or Local Laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
For the TR-6, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for the TR-6 is defined as:
- Experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
OR
You may substitute education for general or specialized experience as follows: A 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. A combination of specialized experience and education in a Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position.
* Note: Successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations, may be substituted for a maximum of 3 months of specialized experience.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable:
For the TR-8, you must have been at the TR-7/GS-6level for 52 weeks.
For the TR-7, you must have been at the TR-6/GS-5 level for 52 weeks.
For the TR-6, you must have been at the GS-4level for 52 weeks.
Education
Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the
