About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center, Joint Base Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas.

Duties

Cooks or re-thermalizes a variety of simple hot foods that require grilling, deep fat frying, broiling, and use of the oven or microwave cooking. Labels and stores nourishments and all other food items with required information IAW standards Checks tray line for accuracy and compliance with diet order and food/beverage temperatures during tray assembly and takes appropriate action to correct tray errors in a timely manner. Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition to ensure compliance with safe food handling procedures and HACCP guidelines, and to maintain safe working environment. Operates food service equipment in a safe manner. Applies special sanitary techniques in preparing formulas and tube feeding such as sterilizing equipment and sanitizing work areas. May perform duties such as transportation and breakdown of tray carts, loading and unloading of the dishwasher, and stacking of equipment (plates, tops, cups, dishes, trays, etc) and supplies in an orderly and safe manner. Runs the Point-of-Sale cash register system, collects cash and makes exact change, secures and safeguards cash, and turns in cash IAW established procedures.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A pre-placement medical examination is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• This position is designated as Inclement Weather Position. Is expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
• Require to Use/wear appropriate uniforms, safety, and sanitation equipment.
• This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.

The ability to perform the common duties of a Food Service Worker that includes washing dishes, pots, and pans, either manually or by use of mechanical equipment, cleaning spaces under and behind kitchen equipment and plating food on a tray. Working Conditions: Work is performed predominantly in a noisy kitchen, and sometimes in dining area. The work involves continuous walking and standing on tile floors. The incumbent is exposed to minor cuts, bruises, burns and scalds. Incumbent works on rotating day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts.
