This position is located in Ridgeland, MS in the Jackson district office of the Office of Field Operations, Regulatory Operations. The district office is responsible for the overall management of an inspection and enforcement program involving meat, poultry, and egg products in several states. The work schedule is full time, Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Salary Range: GS-7, $46,696 - 60,703 GS- 9, $57,118 - 74,250

Duties

You will coordinate staffing and coverage of inspection assignments You will maintain the database of available personnel to ensure assignment staffing. Provide information to union officials and representatives of employment organizations regarding staffing and related issues. You will function as liaison with the FSIS Office of Human Resources to initiate recruitment for new or vacant positions. Authorize and audit travel vouchers to ensure proper use of travel funds. As needed, you may assist in the development of budget and/or hiring projections for the district. Responsible for administering leave schedules for inspection personnel and for monitoring time and attendance reports using WebTA. Conduct orientation sessions for new FSIS employees.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements (including specialized experience and/or education) by the closing date of the announcement, as defined below: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. For the GS-7 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-5 level) that demonstrates: Assisting in researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides. Assisting in the development of staffing reports Answering routine inquires on personnel and management issues from the field employees and other customers Maintaining and coordinating calendars and events. Compiling and assembling data to create and maintain spreadsheets. Managing personnel files, training, leave, staffing or other administrative requirements For the GS-9 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-7 level) that demonstrates: Researching inquiries and providing guidance and advisory services to customers at multiple levels related to staffing. Maintaining Personnel management and file/records management. Coordinating training events and providing input or recommendations for training requirements. Researching and interpreting basic regulations and guides. Assisting in the development of staffing reports. Assisting in providing services to customers at multiple levels related to staffing. Education

There is no education substitute for the GS 09 level.

Applicants can also qualify at the GS-7 level via education in one of the ways listed below:
  • 1 full year of graduate level education.
  • Superior academic achievement: S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership.

  • Master's or equivalent graduate degree.
  • 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such degree
  • LL.B. or J.D., if related.
