The Tax Division enforces the nation's tax laws fully, fairly, and consistently, through criminal and civil litigation, in order to promote voluntary compliance with the tax laws and maintain public confidence in the integrity of the tax system. The Management Support Specialist provides administrative and clerical support to Section managers and personnel within the Section. The Management Support Specialist may perform work for one or more sections of the Tax Division.

As a Management Support Specialist, at the full performance level (GS-09) of this position, the incumbent will be required to perform these responsibilities independently, upon entry into the position. At the GS-07 level, the incumbent will be expected to perform the tasks under close supervision, and in receipt of detailed instructions. Your typical work assignments may include the following:
Acts as the focal point for all section legal case management information and data analysis. Ensures that all section legal case data is complete, retrievable, and accurate in the Division's case management system. Analyzes new case material to determine type of case, and selects specified data tracking information to be entered in a legal database management/case management system.
Analyzes legal correspondence and documents to extract statistical information, (e.g., court dates, pleading due dates, offer date received, approved or disapproved and amount due under offer to either side, decisions, and judgments) to be entered in case management system.
Monitors the progress of trial and other litigation activities conducted by Section attorneys from initial assignment to completion, obtaining relevant information from attorneys and preparing disposition of cases.
Prepares correspondence, spreadsheets, graphics, and presentations. Reviews correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy, conformance with general policy, factual correctness, and adequacy of treatment, and calls deviations or inadequacies to the attention of the writer.
Enters Time and Attendance (T&A's) for section employees and prepares reports associated with the preparation of the T&A's.
Makes travel arrangements for Section managers, prepares travel authorizations for office staff; assigns a document control number to each travel authorization: uploads travel authorizations to the Tax Division financial management system. Prepares travel reimbursements.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You may need to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result before you can be appointed into this position.
- You may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- You will need to successfully complete a pre-employment background security process pending completion and adjudication of the background investigation before you can be appointed to the position.

- This is not a remote position. You will be required to work in person at our Washington, DC offices. However, some Telework may be authorized.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Management Support Specialist at (GS-0301-7/9), you must possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade. If you are a current government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade.
To qualify at the GS-07 grade level you must possess the following:Applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience are, but are not limited to:
Experience using automated programs including Word Office Suite, and automated travel authorization and voucher system(s);
Experience analyzing legal correspondence and documents to extract statistical information;
Experience preparing correspondence, spreadsheets, and reports;
Experience entering Time and Attendance (T&A's) in an automated system; and
Experience reviewing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy.
-OR- Possessone (1) full year of graduate level education; OR Superior academic achievement - A bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement (SAA). SAA is based on a GPA of 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0; class standing in the upper third of graduating class; or election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
-OR- Possess a combination of both, specialized experience and graduate education described above. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
To qualify at the GS-09 grade level you must possess the following:Applicant must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience are, but are not limited to:
Experience using automated programs including Word Office Suite, and automated travel authorization and voucher system(s);
Experience analyzing legal correspondence and documents to extract statistical information;
Experience preparing spreadsheets, reports, graphics, and presentations;
Experience entering Time and Attendance (T&A's) in an automated system and preparing reports associated with the preparation of the T&A's;
Experience reviewing correspondence for procedural and grammatical accuracy, conformance with general policy, and factual correctness; and
Experience identifying relevant legal case data to be keyed into a legal case management tracking system.
OR- Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree or a LL.B or J.D. degree, if related. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
-OR- Possess a combination of both, specialized experience and graduate education described above. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond one year by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
Transcripts: If qualifying based on education or combination of experience and education, you must submit unofficial transcripts or list of courses that includes school attended, school address, course titles, grades earned, completion dates, department, and quarter/semester hours earned. NOTE: Official transcripts are not required at the time of application; if you are selected, you must provide official transcripts before you start work.
Time in Grade Requirement: Current government employees on a permanent appointment in the competitive service must demonstrate one year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the occupational series and grade.
