These positions are located within the Fiscal Service at the VA Western New York Healthcare System in Syracuse, NY. The Accounting Technician performs work in support of budget, accounting, auditing, payroll, fiscal, and/or financial management function.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Analyzes, codes, and processes all types of accounting transactions involving various types of funds; Ensures the accuracy and completeness of information provided in accordance with regulatory requirements; Balances and reconciles reports, statements, summaries, and trial balances; Reviews purchase orders, contracts, travel orders, and other claims against obligated funds and enters data into accounting systems; Reconciles and reviews all transaction accounting classifications; Analyzes accounting reports, records, supporting documents and initiates required adjustment actions; Provides financial statements by abstracting data from a variety of source documents; Serves as alternate agent cashier and performs a board range of cash receipt and disbursing duties; Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. OR 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have the following experience: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-5) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of an Accounting Technician GS-6. Specialized experience includes: working knowledge of accounting practices, policies, and procedures; processing accounting transactions; maintaining financial accounts and verifying accuracy of data; balancing and reconciling financial statements; entering and tracking financial data within an automated accounting system; and preparing billing invoices, financial reports. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Accounting OperationsAnalytical ThinkingPhysical Security IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: : Work is primarily sedentary. Work is performed in an office setting. There are no special physical demands.
