This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Office of Health Security (OHS). The OHS is the principal medical, workforce health and safety and public health authority for DHS.
The purpose of this position is to serve as the Division Director of the Border Health Division. This position leads programs that enhance health systems integration, delivery of health services and preparedness for border health security challenges.

Duties
As a SUPERVISORY HEALTH SCIENTIST, GS-0601-15, your typical work assignments may include:
Directly supervises and provides leadership and direction to a subordinate staff comprised of medical and health professionals, support staff, and program managers.
Manages the day-to day operations and provides administrative and technical oversight to subordinate staff.
Leads the development, implementation and monitoring of high-quality programs enhance preparedness and mitigation efforts against infectious diseases and other public health threats.

Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below.
Basic Requirement: You must meet the item listed below: Possess a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position (examples include: Health Education, Community Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion/Adult Fitness, biological, other health sciences). The degree must be from an accredited body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained (Must provide transcripts).
AND
Specialized Experience:
You qualify for the GS-15 grade level if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal government, performing duties such as: 1) Directing major programs that are focused on integration of border security and migrant health activities; 2) Assigning work to a multidisciplinary team of program managers, planners and clinicians based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees; 3) Managing the development and implementation of medical, public health and health security policies, objectives, and goals to ensure comprehensive and integrated delivery of care services across land, maritime and littoral border regions.

A graduate or higher-level degree is highly desired.
Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
