About the Position: Serves as a Protocol Specialist for the Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) as a member of the Protocol Office.
Duties
Assist in the overall coordination of events.
Serve as escort officer for visits, events and ceremonies involving VIPs.
Schedule events and correct conflicts due to unexpected changes.
Develop itineraries, guest lists, invitations, seating arrangements according to protocol precedence lists for special social functions, conferences and meetings.
Assist SDDC Protocol Officer in planning, managing and executing ceremonies, conferences, briefings, official and social functions, and high-level foreign and domestic visits.
Provide advice to SDDC leadership and subordinate commands on matters pertaining to protocol.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Position may require some TDY travel-approximately 10%.

Specialized Experience for GS-09:One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Interacting with distinguished visitors; 2) Plan, organize, coordinate and direct itineraries for distinguished visitors; 3) Assist in Protocol activities (social functions, VIP visits, etc.); 4) assist in developing after action reports to detail challenges, difficulties and lessons learned from ceremonies and visits. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Masters or equivalent graduate degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
Specialized Experience for GS-11:One year of specialized experience which includes:1) Advising and executing a full range of protocol functions to include military protocol/etiquette, social events, ceremonies, graduations, distinguished visitor/VIP visits, and military honors and events. 2) Applies knowledge of pertinent budgeting and accounting practices to project, monitor and document collections and expenditures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
