You will serve as a General Supply Specialist in the Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Management Branch of NAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR JACKSONVILLE.

Duties

You will perform a wide range of inventory management and physical distribution warehouse functions for hazmat. You will retrieve Safety Data Sheets (SDS) from the Hazardous Materials Information Resource System (HMIRS) and provides to customer. You will provide assistance coordinating hazardous material information/policy changes with applicable departments, tenant activities, and squadrons. You will use the forklift to load, unload, move and stack boxes and material in warehouse and trucks utilizing attachments as required.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Forklift (10K) Operator Permit/License. The forklift permit/license must be obtained within 30 days of reporting for duty.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: thorough knowledge of various supply regulations, policies, procedures and instructions relating to the operation of the hazardous material locker, inventory management and issue and receipt processing to provide services for hazardous management and operational support. Examples of specialized experience include: 1) Cataloging, receiving, ordering, labeling, storing, monitoring, issuing, inspecting, shelf-life management, delivery and disposal of hazardous material via Navy Enterprise Resource Programs (N-ERP); 2) Providing procedural guidance to supply and material management personnel involved in the receipt, issue, storage, delivery, accounting, reutilization and disposal of hazardous material; 3) Providing assistant/coordination in overseeing the supply and material management practices in order to minimize disposal of excess hazardous material; 4) Reviewing procedures and analyzes reports of other data to ascertain problems in accuracy, adequacy, adherence to procedures, etc. and implements corrective action as necessary. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

master's or equivalent graduate degree

or

2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree

or
