THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This position is for an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, Position Description Number D2324000 located at the 116th Maintenance Squadron, Robins AFB, Georgia. This is a full-time, Excepted Permanent, dual status position which requires Georgia Air National Guard Membership. Area of Consideration: Open to current members of the Georgia Air National Guard.

Duties

As an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic, WG-2610-13, you will: On a day-to-day basis, analyze performance, test, inspect, troubleshoot, identify and isolate malfunctions, disassemble, modify or repair and reassemble test stations or ECM Pods and their associated peripherals. Consider the complex interrelated variables arising from a mix of computer hardware and software, stimulus and measurement systems, and special purpose test subsystems. Analyze malfunctions using schematics, logic and wiring diagrams, programming tables, computer program flow charts, software user guides, computer program listings and factory drawings. Diagnose circuit operating characteristics using computer query, system peculiar test equipment, and computer diagnostics. Isolate problems to the failing part using self-test diagnostics, oscilloscopes, frequency meters, signal generators, digital, and differential voltmeters, computer registers and printouts and other special and standard tools and test equipment. Remove and replace components, assemblies, subassemblies, or parts using special and common hand tools, soldering devices and special electronic instruments. May modify and update avionics Pods, support equipment and support software according to applicable technical publications. Analyze program data and determine if the criteria is sufficient to provide adequate testing and troubleshooting. Examine recurring malfunctions and software deficiencies to determine testing voids and initiates corrective action by submission of quality deficiency reports, software deficiency reports or proposed modifications. Devise repair procedures based on findings and recommend program changes, procedural changes, or data corrections to correct software deficiencies. Recommend revisions to intermediate maintenance directives. Connect associated testing equipment to interface the test station system to the aircraft system and or Pod to facilitate maintenance/repair of POD or line replaceable units (LRUs) from the avionics systems such as radar, fire control, instrument, flight control, inertial navigation, malfunction analysis and recording equipment systems. Determine whether failures are caused by the unit under test (UUT), the Pod, the test station, or the test program. If the malfunction is found to be in the UUT, Pod or the test station, isolate it to the specific component(s), disassemble and effect repair by replacing solid state devices, micro miniature modules, gyros, sensors, transducers, and any other required parts, and assemble after repair is accomplished and perform operational tests. If the malfunction is in the test program, inform engineers and/or Air Force Logistics Command (AFLC) of the problem and serve as subject matter expert in providing practical technical assistance in resolution. Ensure compatibility of items with each other and with extenders and interfaces. Work with engineers and technicians in the development and/or modification of software, interfaces, extender equipment or additional items of test equipment and in validation of technical data concerning the repair, maintenance, and test of the test station and units under test. Initiate technical data changes. Suggest means by which a component or system can be tested more economically or thoroughly and provides practical technical assistance by explaining peculiarities of the program or assemblies of the test station, UUT, interfaces, extenders, test procedures, etc. Provide hands-on training instructions to lower grade personnel concerned with repair of computer controlled automatic test equipment, manually controlled test equipment, line replaceable units and aircraft integrated systems. Also provide on-the-job instruction to newly assigned personnel, regardless of grade level. Prepare for and participate in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Inspections (ORI), Inspector General (IG) inspections, and Unit Effectiveness Inspections and mobility and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operator, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a team member on a board to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Comply with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. Ensure that material and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance of the position.

Specialized Experience: Candidate must possess 18 months specialized experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic integrated systems equipment; experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic integrated systems equipment; experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using a wide variety of test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE); experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. Physical Effort: Physical effort involves lifting components and equipment and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Items lifted generally weighing from10 to 40 pounds and occasionally, objects weighing in excess of 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Works indoors in a well-lighted, heated and ventilated area. May be subject to danger from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air, high noise level, electrical shock, RF radiation and burns from soldering irons.
