The Medical Bureau (MED) promotes the health and welfare of the Department of State worldwide workforce, maintains long-term health domestically and overseas for eligible family members (EFMs), prepares employees for urgent assignments and protection from communicable diseases, including care for employees from over 50 other federal agencies. Provides the full range of professional nursing services to Foreign Service, locally employed Department of State staff, and EFMs.
Duties
Responds to requests for urgent and emergent medical care for U.S. government employees and their families stationed around the world.
Provides inpatient and outpatient care; reviews travel related medical documentation for approval and/or additional requirements.
Monitors ongoing medical care, discusses changes in patient status, and conveys recommendations to the patient for achieving goals for medical travel/ medical clearance.
Reviews patient records with Providers and Medical Clearance team to ensure required medical care is complete before return to Post.
Assists with reviewing and writing new Medical Travel policies as determined by policy/regulation updates and the needs of service(s).

Qualifications

Applicants MUST meet the required basic entry qualification requirements described below:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required.
This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination.
In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

IN ADDITION to meeting the basic requirements above, you MUST have at least 1 or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service that provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of qualifying equivalent experience include:
Experience utilizing nursing administration, case management theories, principles, and concepts, diagnostic and treatment procedures related to medical evacuation and to provide technical advice and guidance.
Experience applying Department regulations and procedures concerning Emergency Visitation Travel (EVT) and Foreign Affairs medical evacuation procedures.
Experience using and travel medical protocols to address global distribution issues, epidemiology, mode of transmission, prevention and travel associated infectious diseases.
