You will serve as a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST in the Public Affairs and Graphics Division, Command Services Department, Naval Oceanographic Office of NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.

Duties

You will assist in developing, implementing and executing Command’s strategic/corporate communications plan and initiatives. You will prepare publications and disseminate information on the Naval Oceanography Program and associated activities. You will interact with visiting media representatives and coordinate interviews with senior staff. You will utilize advanced knowledge of graphics, printing processes and web site design, development and modification to produce various visual products.

Requirements

  • This position is eligible for part time, substantial or ad-hoc telework at the discretion of management.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting with creating social media content for social media pages and assisting with creating social media campaigns. Assisting Chief Scientist and recruiting team members with preparation for recruiting events at colleges, conferences, and assists in planning, coordinating special events such as command open houses, holiday and diversity programs, media days and other special events. Initiating meetings and coordinates interviews with the media, disseminates information or answers questions about the organizations operations/activities and escorts visiting media. Using photography and assisting with researching and writing articles for news releases and feature articles and publication, local and national and online media and developing brochures, fact sheets, flyers, posters, displays, briefings and video scripts and planning and coordinating special events such as command open houses, holiday and diversity programs, media days, and other command special events. Education

Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position and is DIRECTLY RELATED to the work of the position:

GS-9: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (https://www.ed.gov/). Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
