The primary purpose of this position is to provide appropriate and effective educational and recreational activities and instruction for children/youth in the School-Age Care Program, Youth Program and Sports Program. In addition, performs basic oversight and supervision for children/youth 5-18 years of age.

Duties

Assists in planning, coordinating, and conducting educational and recreational activities Assists in securing supplies, equipment and materials needed for daily activities. Assists in planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing a comprehensive recreational, cultural, social, and youth sprots and fitness program for youth 6-18 years of age of eligible parents. Assists in checking children/youth into the facility/program and notes any special instructions provided by parents.

  • Full/part-time employees occupying direct childcare positions are eligible for discounts IAW DAF AFSVC/CC Memo, 30 Sep 22; first child 100% / each additional child 25%. Other assigned CYP and FCC personnel are eligible for 25% discount.

  • Must be 18 years of age, hold a high school diploma (or equivalent), and have the ability to speak, read and write English.
  • Must complete additional training requirements to include Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, First Aid, rescue breathing, and food handlers.
  • Training may be conducted during evening and weekend hours.
  • May be required to work other than normal duty hours.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a physical and keep current on all immunizations.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license is required for the position.
  • Position is identified as having regular contact with children. A criminal history background check is required. Results of Child Care National Agency Check w/ Inquiries and State Criminal History Records Checks will determine suitability of selectee
  • This is a Mission Essential position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continue through full resumption of all functions.
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the general experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series 0189. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least SIX (6) MONTHS of general experience in a progressively responsible role that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to provide educational and recreational activities and instruction for children/youth. OR EDUCATION: One (1) year of education above high school that includes courses related to recreation (e.g., basic psychology, group dynamics, physical education, arts and crafts, etc.). OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of basic rules, procedures or operations. Ability to follow instructions and guidance to complete assigned tasks and communicate information to others in oral or written format. Skill in applying basic occupational theory, principles, concepts, and practices sufficient to perform assignments. Ability to analyze problems, identify significant factors, gather and interpret pertinent data, and apply established rules and procedures in order to recommend effective solutions. Ability to learn and apply basic investigative techniques to accomplish work in the subject-matter field. Ability to gather and analyze basic facts, information, and data, and draw conclusions. Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with others to interact effectively and appropriately with the children/youth and ensure effective communication with parents. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
