Duties
If you are selected for this position, you will perform the following duties:
The incumbent serves as a litigation support specialist and is responsible for providing on-going technical and logistical assistance. Incumbent serves as non-legal manager of investigations and litigation. The position serves as a staff analyst, evaluator, and advisor to management and is responsible for planning, analyzing, evaluation, and/or improving the effectiveness of administrative and technical operations pertaining to litigation. The incumbent provides guidance and support on all solutions available for the management of all investigational documents and records, including all active and archived legal documents relating to cases, settlements, and proposals.
Provides extensive advice and assistance to attorneys and other support staff of internal and external projects including; monitoring various court orders, discovery schedules, and multiparty agreements to ensure compliance; preparing briefs and overseeing the filing of briefs, notices of appeals, and appendices; providing direct support for trial proceedings; preparing, locating, organizing, and maintaining discovery letters, pleadings, trial subpoenas, demonstrative exhibits, and case files.
Helps develop policies, procedures and best practices related to supporting litigations teams preparing for trial in Federal Courts or Administrative proceedings. Helps provide specialized training to attorneys and legal support staff within the Bureau on the large variety of litigation specific administrative techniques, including the development of tutorials and other advisory materials
The incumbent possesses an extensive knowledge of internet databases and legal resources. Must be able to analyze, store, and retrieve information from voluminous document productions submitted by external parties. Advises technical litigation support staff on proper classification of document productions. Maintains an in depth understanding of various electronic litigation related systems, including but not limited to the Concordance document management software, Trial Director, trial presentation software, CaseMap, order of proof management software, and the Pacer e-filing document repository.
Serves as Bureau expert on Federal Court and proprietary e-filing systems, advising legal and support staff on procedures and rules of use.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To qualify for a Litigation Support Specialist at the GS-12 level, you must meet the following requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, analyzing, evaluation, and/or improving the effectiveness of administrative and technical operations pertaining to litigation; providing extensive advice and assistance to attorneys and other support staff of internal and external projects including; monitoring various court orders, discovery schedules, and multiparty agreements; developing policies, procedures and best practices related to supporting litigations teams preparing for trial in Federal Courts or Administrative proceedings and an in depth understanding of various electronic litigation related systems, including but not limited to the Concordance document management software, Trial Director, trial presentation software, CaseMap, order of proof management software, and the Pacer e-filing document repository.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
