The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare (VAGLAHS) is seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) for our Clinical Procedure Center (CPC). Provides care for both outpatient/inpatient Veterans undergoing diagnostic & interventional gastrointestinal & pulmonary procedures. The ANM for this area executes a position responsibility that demonstrates leadership, experience & ingenious approaches to management of complex patient care.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:
Provides a full range of nursing care to patients with complex care needs
Demonstrates evidence of critical thinking skills in identifying. analyzing, and resolving patient care problems on the unit
Performs ongoing assessment of patient condition and response to treatment
Provides leadership in establishing goals, evaluating the plan of care, and in discharge planning.
Evaluates and documents patient response to interventions and progress towards attainment of goats and expected outcomes
Effectively functions as the charge nurse, team leader, or in other leadership role that guides and directs others who provide patient care
Uses a team approach to identify, analyze, und resolve patient care problems that result in improved patient outcomes
Role-specific Competency Checklist is complete and is rated competent in all measured areas
Demonstrates appropriate and consistent critical thinking skills.
Evaluates health care delivery (a) identifying problems, (b) seeking resolutions, (c) implementing change, (d) assessing progress and (e) evaluating outcome in collaboration with the unit Nurse Manager.
Safeguards patient privacy and maintains confidentiality of all electronic and printed patient information according to HIPAA guidelines, the Privacy Act, and as slated in the Medical Center Memo on ADP Security
Demonstrates leadership with compliance with infection control practices
Provides input into financial management activities including operational budgetary decisions and cost containment.
Demonstrates positive effective communication skills and professional behaviors that promote cooperation and teamwork with internal and external customers
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8-hour Mid-Day Shift with workdays/hours flexibility required as patient care needs require. This position has 24-hour accountability.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
Preferred Experience:
Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in nursing education or a related field preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience in nursing, preferably in a Mental Health setting
Prior experience in teaching or nursing education is highly desirable
Strong knowledge and understanding of nursing principles, practices, and clinical protocols
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train, mentor, and collaborate with nursing staff
Proficient in using technology and learning management systems for educational purposes
Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and adapt to changing priorities
Deep empathy and respect for veterans and their unique needs
Valid AHA BLS certification
Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience.
For foreign education equivalency the only certifying body the VA recognizes is CGFNS and its' subsidiary, International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Without certification of BSN-equivalency, the VA can only consider the degree at the associates level and pay will be determined accordingly.

Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting (45 lbs and over); Heavy carrying (45 lbs and over); Straight pulling and pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking and standing up to 8 hours; repeated bending; Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; hearing aid permitted.
