Dental Services, Naval Medical Center, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.

Duties
Prepares and presents functions as a Surgical Technologist with core competency in preparing and presenting necessary supplies and instrumentation for surgical procedures ranging in a wide variety of complexity.
Provides direct surgical and indirect perioperative care as directed by the circulating nurse for specific procedures in a timely manner according to established policies and specifications of the attending surgeon.
Must be sufficiently knowledgeable in all surgical procedures to anticipate the needs of the surgeon
Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to assess the effectiveness of existing services and resources for patients that require perioperative care for various diseases or deformities.
Coordinates and participates in the orientation and continuing education of military and civilian personnel assigned to the surgical specialty, providing continuity and stability through changing staffing patterns.
Preceptor to facilitate student learning and role development within the perioperative setting in support of the METC Surgical Technologist Program.
Ensures a safe physical environment in the operating room and sedation suite by providing all necessary equipment in proper working order.
Promotes physical effort and safety while assisting with the proper positioning of the patient, surgical site preps and other associated interventions.
Ensures adequate supply levels through daily and weekly inventory inspections. Involved with receiving and storing supplies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The incumbent will work on all shifts and weekends on a rotational basis as needed.
- Health Care Workers (HCW) will be offered the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) or HBV immunity testing.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has a requirement to lift less than 50 lbs
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes aiding with direct surgical care in accordance with established policies and protocols. Performing any of the following: preparing the operating room for surgery, preparing equipment prior to surgery, and pass medical instruments or drugs or supplies during surgery. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)
