This position is located within the Mouse Imaging Facility (MIF), Division of Intramural Research (DIR), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
Duties
Perform experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures. Critically analyze results of experiments to determine whether data generated are accurate and valid.
Discuss scope and objectives of the research project with the research scientist. Recommend methods and assist the scientist in designing the experiment.
Advise the scientist of the methods to be used and estimate time and resources required with investigator.
Coordinate activities with the veterinary and animal care staff.
Collect, organize, and record experimental data in a form suitable for publication.
Review results of experiments for reliability and compare with data from similar experiments
Maintain an awareness of current research and new methodological developments in the field.
Ensure that laboratory equipment is available when needed, is properly calibrated and in working order. Perform routine maintenance and repair of equipment.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Biologist, GS-0401 position you must have:
Completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university; OR
A combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
In addition, in order to qualify for a Biologist, GS-0401 position at the GS-09 level you must have:
Completed two (2) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree that is directly related to the duties of this position; OR
One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: performing experiments in accordance with approved methods and procedures; preparing detailed plans for experiments and procedures to be performed; analyzing experimental data and drawing tentative conclusions and using and maintaining a variety of laboratory instruments and ensuring laboratory equipment is calibrated and in working order; OR
A combination of post baccalaureate education and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
