This position is located at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and serves as a Recreation Assistant working to implement the objectives of the Integrative Health Coordinating Center and the VHA Office of Patient Centered Care and Cultural Transformation. The position is responsible for providing yoga instruction for the purpose of promoting, restoring, and preserving health and well-being of Veterans at the VA Medical Center, and supporting additional recreational activities.
Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Prepares and sets up yoga setting and equipment to support scheduled events and activities
Instructs Veterans on the safe use of yoga equipment and ensures the safety of patients during all activities
Conducts well-being classes (either group or individual) for the purpose of promoting, preserving, or restoring health and well-being
Develops marketing requests and advertising efforts for special events to encourage participation in yoga programs
Conducts regular inventories of equipment and supplies
Conducts regular inspections of yoga equipment and initiates/tracks work orders to repair equipment
Contact VA Point of Contact in case of an emergency or any other pressing issues
Reports medical or behavioral incidents and immediately informs supervisor of patients who express suicidal or homicidal thoughts or plans
Combines physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation appropriate for the level of the class
Provides accurate instruction in the areas of yoga such as various level of stretching and relaxation
Prepares class format and content appropriate for the type of class and level of participants
Adapts yoga protocols to match patient ability and physical limitations
Records class attendance in medical records, noting any precautions or clinically relevant outcomes
Leads yoga classes for well-being and maintenance of health
Acts as mentor to yoga teacher trainees
Participates in creating standards and protocols for yoga teachers
Identifies yoga resources in local communities
Communicates contraindications for every pose and practice
Asks permission every time to touch/adjust someone during class
Performs all other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

This position includes a Selective Placement Factor (skill, knowledge, ability or other worker characteristic basic to - and essential for - satisfactory performance of the job). Selective Placement Factors are a prerequisite to appointment and represent minimum requirements for a position. Applicants who do not meet it are ineligible for further consideration.
The Selective Placement Factor for this position is: Must have Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) 200 Yoga certification or higher. Please provide proof of certification. RYT 500 is preferred.
In addition to meeting the English Language requirement and Selective Placement Factor, to qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, applicants must also meet at least one of the following:
EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: group leader, counselor, or similar work in public and private recreation programs for adults or children such as summer camps, local playgrounds, YWCA and YMCA clubs, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, urban community centers, or resort recreational activities; teacher's aide in elementary school recreation or physical education program; aid or assistant assignments in recreation while on active military service; aid or assistant in the organization and administration of recreation activities, such as preparing activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and providing information concerning schedules and activities; summer aid in a State or national park, with duties related to the recreational activities of visitors to campsites, trails, picnic areas, nature and raft centers, boating and fishing areas, etc.; aid or assistant in the issuance of authorized property, and in the maintenance/accountability of inventory control for such property in a recreation facility; or aid or assistant in a hotel or resort recreation service, with duties such as setting up areas for games, tournaments, and other organized group recreational activities. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. OR
EDUCATION: Half a year of graduate education (usually 9 semester hours) that is directly related to the work of this position. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended. Transcripts required. OR
COMBINATION: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. Experience must be detailed, and transcripts required.

Physical Requirements: The work requires considerable physical exertion in order to perform assigned duties. The environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of an office or training room setting. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
