This position is located in Des Moines, IA within the VA Regional Office. The incumbent serves as the primary administrative assistant to the Veterans Service Center management. The Program Support Assistant explains benefit programs and entitlement criteria, analyzes claims material, identifies issues, gathers relevant evidence, conducts interviews to adjudicate claims and inputs data necessary to generate awards/notification letters to veterans describing the decision.
Duties
Maintains division's electronic personnel and administrative files.
Prepares minutes and agendas for meetings.
Tracks and reports leave patterns.
Advises management regarding VA guidelines for leave usage.
Performs timekeeping functions (posting and correcting timecards, logging over time/ compensatory time off, monitoring leave balances, etc.)
Advises management regarding VA guidelines for overtime implementation and issues.
Tracks budget expenditures for travel, overtime, special awards, and other expenses that may arise.
Composes charts, memos, and other clerical documents as directed.
Serves as division liaison to other Regional Office divisions, contractors, and the general public for routine issues.
Maintains division's stock of office supplies and some office equipment.
Initiates any documentation required to grant division employees access to necessary computer systems and buildings.
Maintains calendars for the division, the division manager, and the assistant division manager.
Participate in labor relations management meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements

Specialized Experience:
GS-07: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-06) in the federal service. Specialized experience is work experience that equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as: (1) Experience applying procedures for record keeping. (2) Experience providing clerical and administrative support to include, typing a variety of correspondence. (3) Experience providing customer service to internal and external customers in an office environment.
There is no option for the substitution of education for the specialized experience at the grade level of GS-07.
