The Suicide Prevention Program Coordinator (SPC) manages the daily operation of the Suicide Prevention Program, provides care coordination and case management/monitoring, administers crisis intervention services, promotes crisis resources, provides suicide prevention education and training, and collects/records mandatory data at the Richard L. Roudebush VAMC.

Duties

Administrative Program Duties: Serve as facility Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Point of Contact (POC) for matters related to suicide, including prevention, intervention, postvention efforts, education and outreach, and suicide behavior and death reporting;collaborating with other SPCs, and VHA at-large to share best practices through multiple touch points. Implement facility suicide prevention strategies in accordance with VHA policies. Function as the Suicide Prevention Program Education and Training Coordinator, providing the organization, strategy, planning, and logistics necessary to implement annual Suicide Prevention education to staff within the Indianapolis VAMC, CBOCs, and satellite offices (in-reach). The SPC is responsible to ensure that all received outreach materials are properly sorted, organized, stored, inventoried, and distributed both within the Indianapolis VAMC, CBOcs, and to stake holders in the community who voluntarily promote the materials in their communities. Provide primary clinical social work supervision (to include clinical documentation co-signature) of any pre-licensed Social Worker within the Suicide Prevention Program, if arranged. Case Management: Initiate contact with Veteran to discuss program involvement and expectations. Assist with the completion and utilization of a Suicide Prevention Safety Plan, and reinforce, review, and revise with the Veteran, as needed. Track treatment progress via contact with Veteran, MHTC, and treatment teams, and ensure HRF-7 compliance with all metric targets. Provide appropriate social work intervention and referral as clinically indicated. Prevention: The SPC participates in daily meetings with the other members of the Suicide Prevention Team to clinically review Veteran cases that have been referred to the Suicide Prevention Team via Suicide Behavior and Overdose Report, the behavior section of the Comprehensive Suicide Risk Evaluation, Veteran Crisis Line, staff referral, Veteran self-referral or other communication methods. The SPC will also work toward identifying, researching, analyzing, and consulting with others regarding program development initiatives, as well as patient care and systemic deficiencies. Crisis Intervention: The SPC is involved in a rotation of Suicide Prevention Team pager coverage, during regular business hours, to ensure warm handoffs and timely intervention for Veterans voicing emotional distress in non-clinical areas. Health Promotion: The SPCS takes a lead role in Suicide Prevention Program education and training coordination, and is responsible for the organization, strategy, planning, and logistics necessary to implement annual Suicide Prevention education to staff within the Indianapolis VAMC, CBOCs, and satellite offices. Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education: A master's degree in social work from a school work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Experience and Education: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience. Additionally be able to demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring. Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program. Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program. Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s). Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice. Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position involve primarily walking, sitting, talking, driving, use of the telephone, etc. Light lifting, under 15 pounds, Light carrying, under 15 pounds, Hearing (aid permitted).
