About the Position: This position is located at Ft. Novosel, Alabama, home of the United States Army Aviation Center of Excellence. Fort Novosel is located in the "Wiregrass" area in Southeast Alabama. Recreation activities are abundant in the immediate and surrounding areas for family and fun. Competition for Security Guard Positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veteran's preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment.

Duties

Responsible for protection of government and personal property; control of access of personnel and vehicles to the installation. Enforce federal state, and local laws and official orders and regulations. Provide advice/counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters. Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the security guard force.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
  • IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis, in accordance with (IAW) AR 600-85.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.).
  • Must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Must successfully complete security guard training. Must and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors. including NCIC terminals.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene and be able to wear chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outline is Army Regulation 190-56 "The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program".
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work on an intermittent or unscheduled, on-call basis, and rotating shifts.
  • Serve as a member of the installations overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
