Employee will serve as a Budget Technician located at the Chalmers P. Wylie Veterans Healthcare System in Columbus, OH.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following: Processes budgetary transactions for a variety of appropriated funds and reimbursable accounts, i.e., labor, transportation, equipment, supplies, etc. Compares funding documents with account balances to assure funds are available to cover transactions. Reviews funding documents, such as purchase orders for equipment/supplies, public vouchers, etc., to assure account codes and dollar amounts are correct. Certifies availability of funds. Resolves problems encountered during processing of transactions. Monitors and tracks commitments and adjusts account balances to reflect effects of budgetary transactions (i.e., obligations, expenditures; transfers, reimbursements). Serves as a source of budgetary information for various appropriate funds and reimbursable budget accounts (e.g., employee salaries, benefits, overtime, awards, travel, transportation, materials, equipment, contracts, mission and administrative expenses, etc.) Extracts, compiles, and summarizes information from various financial records (accounts receivables, cost reports, daily listings, status of commitments and undelivered orders) and prepare comprehensive budget reports of funds in appropriated and reimbursable accounts. Prepares current and historical budget information for use by budget analysts in detecting trends and monitoring rates of expenditures. Establishes and maintains control records for the receipt and distribution of budgetary documents and required reports. Performs other duties as necessary. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: processing a wide range of budgetary transactions and balancing accounts, verifying data and dollar amounts and adjusting discrepancies; and compiling and summarizing information from various financial records (accounts receivables, cost reports, etc.) and preparing various budget reports. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Analysis and Problem SolvingBudget AdministrationCustomer Service IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is sedentary. Most tasks are performed while seated at a desk/table, although occasional walking and standing are required in visiting other offices, or in going to and from meetings and conferences.
