Serves as a managing attorney within the Office of the Chief Counsel, Aviation Litigation Division (AGC-300), responsible for leading and managing all regulatory compliance and legal enforcement policy matters.

Duties

Supervises and manages all legal aviation litigation matters assigned to the Branch, including the processing of enforcement actions, 49 CFR part 9 matters, tort claims, accident/incident investigations representation, designee litigation, and responses to controlled correspondence. Oversees and supervises litigation and appellate matters before the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the DOT Office of Hearings, and FAA Office of Adjudication. Supervises attorneys assisting the Department of Justice (DOJ) for aviation litigation matters handled by DOJ in federal court.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

  • Requirement for Managerial Probationary Period: Unless previously completed, selectee must satisfactorily complete a 1-year probationary period to remain in this managerial position.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, ALL applicants MUST meet the following criteria:(1) have a JD Degree from an accredited law school;(2) be admitted to practice before the bar of any U.S. jurisdiction or within the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico;(3) be an active member of that bar; and(4) at least one full year of specialized experience in the work performed at the next lower grade level (FV-J/K or GS-14/15) for this occupational series. A candidate must possess four years of attorney experience and one year of specialized experience, for a total of five years of experience.The specialized experience for this position is defined as:Experience directing and executing plans, programs, policies, or projects in a professional or legal environment; experience handling complex enforcement cases, technical legal, regulatory compliance, or evidentiary issues before administrative or judicial forums; andExperience applying regulatory compliance and legal enforcement policy related issues.Answer all questions to the best of your ability.
