You will serve as a NUCLEAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS INSPECTOR (SHIPS) in the NUCLEAR INSPECTION DIVISION, QUALITY ASSURANCE OFFICE of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will perform electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections, in-process, product, pre-test, test inspections, certification.
You will independently initiate and authorize rejection of workmanship, components, materials, and procedures that do not meet specifications by preparing a Nuclear Deficiency Report.
You will perform receipt inspection, pre-use inspection and making verification of naval nuclear material ensuring proper material control and traceability is maintained
Requirements

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- You will possess current nuclear training and qualifications at the full journeyman level.

*Performing various electronic, electrical and electro-mechanical inspections (e.g. pre-arrival, material condition, in-process, product, pre-test, test, certification, and acceptance of completed work reviews) on complex nuclear reactor plant systems, refueling, and overhaul work.
*Ability to apply a wide knowledge of interrelated effects of work evolutions on nuclear reactor plant systems (e.g. determining cause of problems and isolating the malfunction or failure).
*Using special measuring and inspection devices (i.e. digital multimeters, differential voltmeters, clamp-on ammeter, impedance bridges, Megohm bridges, AC/DC power supplies, reactor coolant pump breaker test devices, etc.).
*Performing surveillances of ongoing or completed work to ensure compliance of all nuclear trades.
*Interpreting diagrams, specifications, drawings, and interrelated procedures and technical requirements.
