About the Position: You will serve as a Security Guard responsible for preserving the life, health and safety of government personnel and safeguarding Army property, and technologies.

Duties

You will perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles. You will authenticate identification through use of electronic Personnel Access Control Systems (ePACS), identification cards, badges, biometric automated records, verbal questioning, and other means. You will perform Visitor Control Center (VCC) duties; perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal; and interpret incoming messages/ALARACTS/Regulations and other directives. You will serve as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents. You will regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic at access control points, review driver's licenses and registrations for access control vetting; and assist motorists with vehicles that have become disabled at the gate, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • May be required to complete occasional business travel.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) you must report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program. Must sign DA Form 5019 acknowledging both pre-appointment and periodic random drug testing requirements.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • IAW AR 190-56, requirements of Individual Reliability Program apply. You must be assessed for social adjustment, emotional stability, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility in adjusting to changes, ability to work effectively under pressure, etc.
  • Shift work is required. Hours of work encompass fluctuating tours of duty to include evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required as directed and is subject to recall for periods of emergency overtime.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons. All weapons training will be conducted IAW AR 190-56.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability. Standard for medical exams are prescribed in AR 190-56 ?The Army Civilian Police and Security Guard Program?.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Failure to meet the PAT requirements as outlined in Army Regulation 190-56 after the second attempt.
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver?s license. Loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation?s overall security response capability which require the employee to carry and deploy a riot baton, carry a protective shield and employ non-lethal ammunitions if necessary.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
