This position is located within the Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System in Omaha, NE in the Facilities Management service line. The employee performs all necessary repairs and preventative maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment within the Medical Center and other duties as assigned.

Duties

The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers. Major duties listed but not limited to: Installs, maintains and repairs (both major and minor) all air conditioning and refrigeration equipment from 1/4-ton systems to 300-ton systems Works in the layout and fabrication of duct and duct systems from 150 CFM to 70,000 CFM capacity Performs preventive maintenance on diffusers, induction cabinets, mixing boxes, fire dampers and pneumatic smoke dampers Maintains exhaust fans, fume hood fans, return air fans, and both direct and belt-driving types Performs mechanic duties in the maintenance and repair of 20,000 pounds per hour water tube boilers with multi-stage duplex steam and electric boiler feed water pumps, accumulator tank, electronic and pneumatic controls and recorders, and condensate transfer pumps Knows the complete operation of the Energy Management System including thermal storage systems, heat recovery systems and controls Must be qualified to serve as an Operator in the operation of all air conditioning, refrigeration, heating equipment and related components Must have had formal or specialized training in systems engineering, systems troubleshooting and maintenance of building automation systems, HVAC systems, and graphic controls Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (work hours may be further discussed during the interview) Position Description Title/PD#: Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic/PD70459A Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: May be authorized for highly qualified candidates Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Pending Approval Bargaining Unit Position: Yes, AFGE Physical Requirements: You will be asked to participate in a pre-employment examination or evaluation as part of the pre-employment process for this position. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include but are not limited to: working as a journeyman in the installation, operation, repair and maintenance of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment; knowledgeable in the principles and theories of air conditioning, refrigeration and heat transfer; able to select, maintain and safely use the tools, measuring equipment, testing devices and instruments related to the heating, ventilation, air condition and refrigeration (HVAC/R) trade; repair, replace install, and test various HVAC/R equipment and/or systems; able to read from blue prints and diagrams when performing tasks.
