Duties
As the Community Outreach Coordinator in the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to create and maintain strong pathways for communication, cooperation, and collaboration with a range of contacts, build trust in and legitimacy of the USAO, and prevent crime. Typical work assignments for this position include:
Facilitating the development and implementation of the District's overall outreach and engagement program, including developing strategies that foster communication and partnerships with agencies and organizations that serve communities.
Initiating and maintaining direct contacts with specialized groups, non-governmental organizations, governmental entities, and individuals in the community to support public safety, communities, and prevention and intervention goals.
Communicating orally and in writing and providing issue analysis, recommendations and advice to the United States Attorney and other relevant staff on public engagement.
Coordinating with public safety agencies and others who serve communities, which may involve convening groups, meetings, and events to address specific challenges, concerns, needs, and solutions to support communities, prevention and intervention goals, and public safety.
Identifying, compiling, analyzing, and organizing information for oral and written report and decision making. Written materials include simple to complex strategic plans, presentations, training agendas, and funding proposals for specific district projects and initiatives.
Serving as a grant-related subject matter expert for the USAO as well as increasing awareness about DOJ grant programs, solicitations and training/technical assistance that will advance training and programs within the district.
Working in conjunction with the District's Executive Staff to pursue and achieve strategic objectives pertaining to the vision and mission of the U.S. Attorney's Office and Department of Justice, which also involves working closely with key internal program coordinators to promote and collaborate on priority issues, including but not limited to violent crime, human trafficking, and civil rights.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable

Qualifications
GS-11: To be eligible at the GS-11 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
To be qualified at the GS-11, you must have at least ONE full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level.
Specialized Experience is defined as developing and implementing reentry programs and crime prevention strategies; participating in a multi-agency task force to accomplish specific program goals, issuing analyses, recommendations and advice regarding federal, state and local reentry programs; providing training to the law enforcement community and tribal authorities on new or changing laws and tactics regarding reentry; developing and implementing program activities and training that promote utilization of federal, state and municipal law; writing and or overseeing publication of informational material; speaking to a variety of audiences, public, civil, industry and special interest groups; and/or coordinating with agencies and organizations concerning issues arising in or relevant to reentry.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Criminal Justice & Criminology): Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M, if related.
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education which when combined equal 100% of the requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate level education must be in excess of two full years. To calculate your percentage of graduate education, first determine the total number of graduate hours that exceed 36 semester hours (or your school's definition of two years of graduate study), then divide the total number of your excess graduate semester hours by 18 (or your school's definition of one year of study).
GS-12: To be qualified at the GS-12 level, you must meet one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in Federal service as defined below. Resumes must include specific example(s) of specialized experience. Specialized Experience is defined as:
Direct and regular contact, collaboration, and coordination with representatives of law enforcement, specifically, federal, state, county, municipal, and tribal law enforcement agencies that are external to the agency for the direct purpose of resolving challenges in urban, suburban, rural, and tribal communities.
Program management experience that includes developing, implementing, andoverseeing project/program milestones, deliverables and strategic plans to regarding USAO priorities, including one or more of the following: promoting civil rights and environmental justice, and reducing hate crimes, violent crime, fentanyl/opioid deaths, human trafficking, and child exploitation.
Identifying, compiling, analyzing, and organizing information for detailed oral and written reports (e.g., strategic plans, program materials, briefing documents) and decision making.
Developing and presenting detailed information orally to law enforcement officials.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
