This position is located within the Enrollment/Details and Beneficiary Travel Section at the New Mexico VA Healthcare System in Albuquerque, NM, and performs duties related to travel, transportation, and accommodations for Veterans.

Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Major Duties: Determines veteran eligibility status for Beneficiary Travel reimbursement in accordance with applicable directives and completing travel payment vouchers; Determines eligibility for travel reimbursement, amount and completes travel voucher for payment or denial of travel claims; Processes eligible veteran travel claims, processes travel arrangements and transportation services, and is the first level of response to travel claim questions; Arranges all modes of transportation via air ambulance, commercial air, taxi, ground ambulance, bus, and other approved modes of transportation for veterans and caregivers; Prepares appropriate documentation and/or schedules travel according to government regulations; Schedules and assigns veterans to accommodation resources based upon policy and processes; Communicates verbally and in writing (phone, fax. mail, email) as appropriate to inform veteran of overnight reservations and program features and requirements while in compliance with the Privacy Act and other applicable laws and regulations; Accurately accounts for funds and service transactions of each veteran account; and Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved Financial Disclosure Report: Not Required

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 in the Federal service that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is experience performing the following duties or related experience that provided the ability to perform the following duties: determine eligibility, process reimbursements, and manage or assist with the management of funds. -OR- EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): Successful completion of 4 years of education above high school in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. -OR- COMBINATION (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED): An equivalent combination of specialized experience and post high school education as described above that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: InsuranceManages ResourcesWritten Communication IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: Work is sedentary but requires walking, standing and carrying of light to medium weight items, such as patient records.
