This position is located within the Environmental Management Service at the Northport VA Medical Center in Northport, NY. The Motor Vehicle Operator is a Furniture Mover Truck Driver and is responsible for the movement and relocation of all furniture to and from designated areas throughout the Medical Center.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Responsible for the movement of items identified by the supervisor'
Assists in the periodic inventory of furniture;
Disassembles and/or assembles furniture by hand and uses common tools exercising care and caution in handling of same;
Assures the items are not damaged; and reports all damaged furniture to the immediate supervisor;
Responsible for the furniture storerooms and their security;
Operates station motor vehicles in the performance of his/her assigned duties; vehicles include vans, panel trucks, trucks, station wagons and pick-up trucks;
Performs first level maintenance such as checking oil, battery and cooling system levels;
Coordinates other maintenance functions such as tune ups, check brakes and any needed repairs with the appropriate individual in EMS;
Maintains records and is responsible for coordinating the vehicle route maintenance schedule; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full-time; exact schedule will be discussed in interview

Qualifications
DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: This position requires current and valid, State-issued Class D motor vehicle operator's license. Please do not upload a copy of your license at this time. If an interview is requested, you may be required to provide a copy of your current, valid, and unrestricted state driver's license.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Moderate physical effort is required in the frequent loading and unloading, lifting, bending, pushing and carrying furniture with an average weight of I 00 pounds up and down stairs, without the benefit or an elevator.
Working Conditions: Incumbent performs the above described assignment of duties in a variety of areas throughout the Medical Center (general office area, hospital patient care areas, non-patient care areas, warehouse and storage areas, open and close quarters, etc.) under a variety of climatic conditions (air-conditioned, damp and hot; over 100 degrees in summer; outside, all types of weather).
