Duties
As a Construction Control Inspector you will be responsible for contract construction, maintenance and repair operations involving one or more large and complex projects of major importance and multiple routine construction projects.
Inspect contractor operations, methods, techniques, and materials to ensure conformance with plans and specifications.
Make spot tests on material and equipment on grade and quality for conformance with plans, specifications and approved samples.
Maintain a daily record on items of work inspected and instructions given or received.
Assure compliance by contractor with environmental and safe working conditions and practices.
Interpret and clarify construction plans and specifications exercising considerable independent judgement in distinguishing between compliance and non-compliance of workmanship, materials, equipment, and safety requirements.
Assist in the preparation of sketches of design changes and estimate cost of modifications.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an examination every other year thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a hard hat, steel toe boots, and eye and/or ear protection on construction sites.
- This position requires the incumbent to take daily trips to project work sites.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience interpreting plans and specifications, inspecting materials and workmanship, and ensuring adherence to safety requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
