About the Position: As a Supervisory Natural Resource Specialist/Supervisory Park Ranger with Bonneville Lock and Dam with the responsibility of exercising day to day technical work direction and supervision for professional and technical visitor center, recreation, and resource management staff. In addition to supervisory duties, you would:

Duties

Establish and oversee the continuing program of land and water patrols and inspections to prevent unauthorized use, trespass or destruction of property, and ensure visitor compliance with usage rules and regulations. Evaluate new techniques, methods and operational approaches for handling law enforcement, recreation programs, and other visitor services functions. Participate in the preparation, review, evaluation, and implementation of the Operational Management Plan in the areas of forest management, fish and wildlife management, recreation, safety, interpretation and shore management. Promote the full utilization of project resources through contact and liaison with legislative representatives, federal, state, and municipal agencies, private and public organizations, partners, industrial interests, and interested individuals. Manage interpretative programs to assist visitors connect and relate to the Corps of Engineers mission, leading to their involvement and support through displays, brochures, visitor center exhibits, and interpersonal contacts.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to wear prescribed uniform as identified in regulation, ER 1130-2-550, dated 15 November 1996.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and/or maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • Incumbent must be in possession of, or the ability to acquire, a Corps of Engineers boat operator's license.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Specialist (Park Manager) A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning, administering, and managing natural resources management and outdoor recreation management programs. Specialized experience also includes enforcement of park rules and regulations, conducting interpretive programs, and managing visitor center facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). -OR- Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, or other related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
