The Supervisory Sanitarian, District Environmental Health Officer is located within OEHE, in a District Office responsible for providing overall management, supervision, and leadership for Division of Environmental Health Services (DEHS) staff and duty stations. Responsible for professionally managing, developing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and promoting a comprehensive Environmental Health Services program. Reports directly to the Area DEHS Director. Located in Reno, NV.
Duties
Provides supervision, leadership, training, mentoring, and coaching to the District's DEHS professional staff (at least 6 professional employees) that assures competencies to assess needs, plan, and implement a comprehensive Environmental Health program in accordance with applicable guidelines and priorities to reduce environmentally related injury and illness.
Provides technical consultation and leadership in the administration of a comprehensive community-based injury prevention program.
Closely collaborates with Area and District Injury Prevention staff in the development, implementation, and evaluation of injury prevention program.
Serves as a principle technical advisor to IHS and Tribal leadership in the development and/or implementation of Environmental Health-related policies, procedures, regulation, and training programs.
Directs professional staff to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate Environmental Health Services activities and programs related to codes and ordinances, disease epidemiology, emergency response, food sanitation, institutional environmental health, recreational sanitation, vector control, waste management, and water control.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-0688-13:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Expertise in environmental health including food safety, epidemiological investigations, air quality, water/wastewater, healthy homes, vector control, community institutions (jails, clinics, schools) and environmental health reporting systems such as IHS WebEHRS.

Requires competencies in environmental health practice as evidenced with possession of a valid professional registration as a Registered Sanitarian (RS) or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) or a state RS/REHS with NEHA reciprocity.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
