This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Veterans Preference, Military Spouse Preference and traditional rating and ranking of applicants do not apply to this vacancy.
About the Position: Police Officer (CLEO) participates in planning, coordinating, and conducting the enforcement program of Federal, State, and installation fish and wildlife regulations.
Duties
Perform duties designed and mandated to provide controlled, safe hunting and boating activities.
Conduct scheduled and unscheduled marine patrols to ascertain compliance with federal and state boating laws Initiates response efforts needed to identify and remove intruders from restricted range areas.
Conduct both short-term and long-term investigations, felony and misdemeanor, into violations of Federal fish, wildlife and environmental laws which involve a wide range of law enforcement activities
Develop evidence for orderly presentation before the U.S. Magistrate, U.S. Attorney and other legal officials, testifying in court and preparing detailed written statements and reports.
Enforce physical security measures are in effect in remote areas of the installation for the protection of Government property, endangered or threatened species, and cultural, archeological protected, and sensitive sites.
Patrols and checks boundaries, restricted areas, and hunting and recreation areas.
Conduct community relations activities, briefings, tours and other functions, which enhance appreciation of the wildlife and promotes a positive attitude and public awareness of fish, game laws and regulations.
Requirements
- Incumbent must be able obtain and maintain a valid Tier 3 (Secret) security investigation.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Successfully graduate from the United States Army Civilian Police Academy, unless incumbent has a current approved exemption/waiver or grandfathered from the Office of the Provost Marshal General.
- Successfully graduate from the USAMPS Conservation Law Enforcement Officer Course within one year of assignment.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- These include, but not limited to: weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System (NIMS) training requirements.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56: Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP).
- Successfully pass a pre-employment and recurring medical evaluation.
- Pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. IAW AR 600-85, a DA 5019R Condition of Employment must be signed for mandatory drug testing.
- The 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 covers this position. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Incumbent is subject to removal from the position if convicted of a felony in accordance with Section 639 of P.L. 106-554 effective January 20, 2001.
- Incumbent in this position is designated as Mission Essential (IAW DODI 3024.42 and DTM 17-004) position during Inclement Weather Conditions or other designed/identified emergency conditions.
- In the event of a crisis situation or inclement weather, the incumbent must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority
- Incumbent must possess a valid state driver?s license and be able to obtain and maintain a government motor vehicle operator?s license.
- Hours of work is subject to irregular and/or rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
- Official Temporary Duty (TDY) up to 10% of the time may be required.
- Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Expenses may be authorized
- Recruitment/Relocation/Retention Incentive may be authorized. Defense National Relocation Program will NOT be authorized

Specialized Experience: One year of experience which includes: Enforcing regulations to protect natural resources or public safety; Safeguard people and facilities in cooperation with local jurisdictions to ensure public safety; and Interview suspects to gather evidence in response to violations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07)
