The therapist is responsible for developing and administering treatment programs to both veteran and DOD outpatients and acute and long-term care inpatients. In addition, the therapist is responsible for his/her own professional development, keeping current with treatment techniques. This role may be performed in person or through the use of telehealth technologies such as telephone, messaging devices, webcams, global media carts, or video conferencing equipment. Major Duties Listed but Not Limited to: Clinical responsibilities assess patient's status, identifies needs, plans and administers a treatment program accurately tests, analyzes, evaluates and records measurements of vital signs, muscular strength and endurance, joint range of motion, coordination, static and dynamic balance. establishes meaningful therapeutic goals and independently designs a treatment plan based on assessment data, physician's orders, patient's goals, and family/caregiver input to meet the goals established in the most efficient manner. administers therapeutic exercise, teaches transfer activities, mobility exercises and gait training to a wide variety of disabilities and diagnosis, selects, adapts and/or fits assistive devices in accordance with rehabilitation goals. participates in multidisciplinary rounds and communicates both orally and in writing with medical and other allied health personnel to inform them of the patient's progress and seek multidisciplinary involvement in patient treatment so as to affect maximum rehabilitation potential and make appropriate discharge plans Communication skills demonstrates the teaching skills required to provide education to patients, families, employees, students and co-workers communication and interpersonal relations are effective, appropriate and courteous to both internal and external customers performs competent written documentation of initial evaluations and progress notes. Patient education discusses the nature of the disability or disease with patients and/or their family and consults with them on assessment findings and treatment plan so as to involve them in the total rehabilitation management of the case provides patient/family education and training in home treatment/exercise programs, adaptive equipment and post-hospital adjustment in a way that is clear and understandable by those involved. Administration documents clearly and concisely the physical findings noted during assessments and treatment as well as changes in medical status via progress notes accurately maintains encounter data and treatment documentation in keeping with PM&R and hospital-wide policies schedules clinic appointment using Veteran's Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) scheduling options. maintains inventory and requests supplies and equipment when necessary. Contributes to the maintenance of a safe, therapeutic environment in all clinical areas assigned in the absence of the Lead Kinesiotherapist and or Kinesiotherapy Supervisor may be asked to act as Lead or Supervisor until such time as the Leader returns Education/Personal development participates in service level staff meetings, service level educational programs and provides in service training to PM&R staff involves teaching students in various disciplines who are assigned clinical rotations in the PM&R area maintains a high level of professional competence through participation in continuing education such as attending workshops and conferences, and through continuous review of medical-therapeutic literature Customer Service incumbent will display a cooperative attitude with management, co-workers, patients and the general public and will effectively work together to implement the organization's mission and goals. meet the needs of customers while supporting the Medical Center and Department's mission, vision and values Information security and confidentiality protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with all applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statues and policy, and VHA policy manages information security within areas of responsibility to assure that computer system security and confidentiality of sensitive information is maintained, and that employee access to sensitive information is limited only to that which the employee requires to perform their duties. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education (1) A bachelor's degree [or higher from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program, with a concentration/emphasis in kinesiotherapy. A bachelor's degree [or higher from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Program, with a concentration/emphasis in kinesiotherapy. OR (2) A bachelor's degree or higher with a concentration/emphasis in kinesiotherapy or exercise science related field and registered as a kinesiotherapist in good standing with the COPSKT. OR (3) A master's degree or higher with a degree in exercise science, kinesiology, human performance or a related field, which has been approved by COPSKT and a certificate verifying completion of a Center of Excellence (COE) Kinesiotherapy clinical training program. The completion of the certificate ensures that COPSKT has approved the degree program as part of the application process for the COE internship. Foreign Graduates. Graduates of a foreign program must meet the requirements in subparagraph 3b if they have a full unrestricted and current registration to practice kinesiotherapy in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States or in the District of Columbia. They must have at a minimum, proof of a degree from an accredited college or university (or foreign equivalent, as verified through an independent credentialing evaluation company). Registration. All applicants must be registered in kinesiotherapy in good standing with the COPSKT. Exception. Non-registered applicants at the GS-7 and GS-9 level who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for appointment, may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate kinesiotherapist under the authority of 38 U.S.C. ? 7405(a)(1)(B). Pursuant to 38 U.S.C ? 7405(c)(2)(B), the appointment cannot exceed two years if the non-registered applicant's registration is pending with the COPSKT. Applicants who fail to obtain registration during this temporary fulltime appointment must be terminated. For grade levels at or above the full performance level, the candidate must be registered. Failure to Obtain Registration. In all cases kinesiotherapists must actively pursue meeting registration starting from the date of appointment. At the time of appointment, the supervisor must provide the unregistered kinesiotherapist with a written requirement to obtain registration, the date by which the registration must be acquired, and the consequences for not becoming registered by the deadline. Failure to become registered within two years from the date of appointment, will result in removal from the GS-0635, Kinesiotherapist series; and may result in termination of employment. Loss of Credential. Registered kinesiotherapists who fail to continue their registration in good standing, and maintain the required registration, must be removed from the occupation, which may result in termination of employment.] English Language Proficiency. Grade Determinations:GS-07 Specialized Experience: None Beyond Basic Requirements. GS-09: Specialized Experience/Education: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) OR [Educational equivalent to] two full years of [progressively higher level] graduate education or a master's degree [from a university or college in the field of kinesiotherapy or an exercise science related field.] AND Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
