Duties
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Assistant Secretary for Insular and International Affairs (ASIIA), Office of Insular Affairs (OIA), Policy Division in Washington DC..
At the full performance level (GS-14) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
1) Collaborates with the OIA Director, Associate Director for Policy, and other policy team members to define short- medium-and long-term policy priorities for OIA. Works with the policy team to develop ASIIA or OIA Director positions on pressing policy and legislative matters.
2) Finalizes and presents policy memos and other documents to the Secretary, ASIIA, and OIA Director for awareness of activities/initiatives and to support decision-making processes.
3) Supports the policy division staff's efforts to develop proposals, strategies, and policy details and to drive initiatives from ideation to implementation.
4) Collaborates with the communication's team on how best to inform and engage the public on policy positions and initiatives.
5) Assists Federal partners to understand how USG policies interact in the nuanced atmospheres of the territories; then works with varying audiences, including territorial officials and non-governmental entities, to interpret how Federal statutes and regulations apply to the territories.
The Office of the Secretary has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval..
Salary Information
GS-14: $132,368 - $172,075 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series/grade to which you are applying.
Specialized Experience
To qualify for the GS-14, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: 1) working on initiatives and/or programs on a territorial or Federal level that improve the quality of life for the people of the Insular Areas; 2) managing projects to define issues, develop priorities and goals, and ensure milestones are met; AND 3) coalition building and/or partnership development to lead teams and establish relationships where not all parties are supportive to program goals.
