Position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration.The incumbent is assigned to the centers' Classified Operations unit, and works with holdings which contain National Security Information (NSI) designated as Confidential, Secret, Top Secret, as well as Restricted Data (RD) or Formerly Restricted Data (FRO) designated by the Department of Energy (DoE). Incumbent performs various duties working within the WNRC Classified Research Room.
Duties
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Perform or oversee the performance of various duties related to receiving, shelving, searching, refiling, interfiling, and destroying Federal records.
Advise and provide technical assistance to agency records officers on routine techniques and procedures for delivering classified and unclassified records to the WNRC.
Greet visitors, discern purpose of visit, confirm ID, validate authorizations using Federal records systems, review and release records, and obtain appropriate signatures and receipts.
Successfully address both standard and non-standard record containers, modifying ARCIS container type and shelf configuration when required.
Provide assistance to authorized agency researchers using the Washington National Records Center Classified Research Room.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-07 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-06 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
- Using judgement and analysis to determine the proper course of action and steps needed to accomplish an assignment;
AND
- Understanding archival functions, such as methods and terminology;
AND
- Communicating with customers and responding to inquiries, verbally or in writing.
Specialized Experience for the GS-06 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-05 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
- Applying regulations and policies to accomplish work assignments;
AND
- Communicating with customers and responding to inquiries, verbally or in writing.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
- Communicating to customer inquiries, verbally or in writing;
AND
- Following and referencing archival policy and procedures
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-07, you must have been at the GS-06 level for 52 weeks.
For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05level for 52 weeks.
Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
Education
Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
